In his own words:
I was born in Texas and raised in Louisiana. I attended and graduated from Buckeye High School. I was the school artist there for extracurricular activities such as the school paper and yearbooks. After high school, I worked for the Pecan Festival while attending Louisiana College.
Afterwards, I made the big move to Houston, Texas, Finding employment with Interstate Theaters, doing layout, paste-up, and artwork for four years. Then another life transition brought me to Pensacola, Florida, to live and study art. There I took some private lessons and sold my art.
In 1976, I moved back to Houston where I painted and had several shows and sold my art at art festivals. In 1979, I then moved to Chappel Hill, Texas and restored a 103 year old farm house. I also opened an art and antique shop, called the Backwall, for five years.
From Chappel Hill, Life moved me to St. Louis, Missouri. There I was involved with the Fox Theater, doing portraits (serious and humerous) of performing celebrities and having them sign the paintings. Celebrities such as Bob hope, Pearl Bailey, Rod Stewart, Phyllis Diller, Jerry Lweis, etc.: most of which remain in my private collection.
In 1985, I moved back to Houston. I was actively involved with Pace Productions and TUTS (Thearer Under The Stars), again creating portrait paintings of celebrities which were signed. Special moments included meeting Tina Turner, Cher, Madonna, Clint Black and others. I was also involved with sales/management of local galleries such as Dean Day and Martin's.
In 1990 I opened the Hyde Park Gallery, where I actively held art shows for local artists, either as a one-person or group effort. Eclectic antique items were sold. I renamed the business to L Crawford Antiques and Art in 1998.
I have had several one-man shows at Martin's, Hyde Park and Yol Art galleries in Houston. I have also been honored to be included in group shows in New York and Philadelphia. I also donate paintings regularly to charitable organization programs for AIDS, breast cancer, child advocacy, and abused children.
